This will provide me with some opportunities to look at Gothic Architecture and it’s influences on previous and current design and the Gothic Revival Period in the United States. The house below is an example of Carpenter Gothic Architecture. It was built in 1854 by Seth Shaw in Ferndale, CA.

The room I have been eager to see a photo of is Gloria Vanderbilt’s bedroom. She collaborated with interior designer Matthew Smyth on the project. It was his idea to ask her to do a room, and it is based on her teenage bedroom when she lived with her aunt, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, in the 1940’s. Vanderbilt said, “I fell in love with the room and forever after tried to recapture it…” This room is very authentic as she remained true to who she is, what she envisioned and the feelings she wanted to recreate.

I love that at 85 years old she is pursuing her creative outlets.

When I heard Charlotte Moss speak she quoted Lesley Blanch saying she wanted to “Recapture the Rapture” with her interiors.

What a beautiful quote. I think Gloria Vanderbilt did just that.
