One of the projects I have been working on this year includes helping a wonderful young family in Charlotte. We decided to hang family pictures in the entry way to keep it young and informal.

Their two kids often play in the living room so we used a lightweight ottoman as a coffee table that can easily be moved.

We were inspired by the colors in the rug from Anthropologie.

I have a case of summertime.

It’s bad. Symptoms to follow:

White pants, oversized sunglasses, straw bags, Chanel inspired nautical shirts…

plus an added round of cute little boys in matching swim gear digging with the reverse end of the shovels.

and my wanting to work on my photography hobby.

To the doctor- daytime has involved the following

Luckily I have two great girls who are working with me. One is going to be my first guest blogger soon.

Anna is going to give you some insight into this fabulous beach house…

How will I be cured? All I need is a good dose of this.

What does that mean? It means freedom to do as you please. Get as creative as you can and only see the screen when necessary. Any suggestions on how to feel better? More Ice Cream, flip flops, picnics and watermelon?

I will be better around Labor Day. Happy Summer.

interior shutters

When I did a post a few weeks ago on interior ropes, at the same time I was thinking about interior shutters. There are some rooms in which shutters are very fitting.

They can be pretty and functional at the same time. I love that the shutters below are the main color in the room.

Look closely, these French shutters were installed on a track so that they can move like curtains.

Even though these are exterior shutters, there is not a need for interior treatments.

The loveseat below once belonged to Tony Duquette.

Antique French shutters have now become closet doors, what a smart idea!

A pair of doors with shutters on the upper portion give the same great feel.

Interior shutters keep a room light and feeling like summer is right around the corner.

I love the look of them over the bathtub.

yellow with grey or gray

For a few weeks I have been giving serious thought to the color combination grey and yellow,

in both strong and light tones.

Last issue of House Beautiful I saw this add from F. Schumacher and thought ah ha!

I am not the only one still thinking about this great combination.

And in the midst of pondering this color scheme,

Anna asked me if in a note to a client grey should be spelled with an e or a….

I said “I always use E and am not sure on the answer”…

Wondering what the answer is?

Apparently I have been spelling grey the British way. greyorgray.com says:

Grey Gardens used the e.

Yellow and Grey or Gray, either way it’s a favorite color combination going strong.

A or E on your end?
