birds on the wall

This past Saturday evening started as a quiet night at home. I was upstairs with the boys and they were playing nicely with their train set, my husband was downstairs watching a basketball game. I was in our bedroom and all of a sudden something came swooping towards me…

The bird was probably more scared than me, but you wouldn’t have known it if you had heard me.

My husband, a neighbor and a few brooms later it was out a window.

How did it get in and upstairs?

This is my second bird-in-the-house episode in fifteen months.

I do think any of the above would be a much better alternative.

Here’s to the rest of the week being a little less dramatic.

Headboards and other alternatives

I am working on two bedrooms for young teenage girls and considering upholstered headboards for their rooms.

The dark welting on the headboard below makes the shape pop and gives the yellow and white stripe fabric more definition.

A matching headboard and bedskirt is always a nice look.

I love this headboard shape and pretty Zoffany fabric. It looks nice and tight on a twin bed.

Martha Stewart always presents a clean look.The trim on the headboard and bedskirt bring it together.

A white headboard on dark walls is always very smart.

A creative way to make a headboard is to frame a piece of plywood and put some batting underneath a piece of fabric.

Or you could use tiles to give the definition to the wall behind the bed.

Two painted beds is easy to do and a good DIY project.

A recycled door with mounted sconces.

Using a shorter bed frame to prop up some pictures up gives height to the bed.

There were some night peeps at my house last night. I think I am going to need a nap today.

Bunk Beds

I am thinking sooner or later of putting my boys in bunk beds. It would be good for them to share a room for a few years. I like the built in nautical look.

What fun stripes!

I have two boys (not four) and I love this idea..but can I tuck in the sheets like that everyday on the top?

The duvet seems more doable on a contemporary looking bunk bed.

Here’s a Friday laugh…did I really find this?

They are quite the jumpers though, maybe I should be thinking about twin beds instead…

Small Changes, Big Change

I recently made a few changes to a master bedroom. This is a before shot.

and after…

Our starting point was bringing in the color orange. Getting rid of the heavy blue curtain panels and blue rug made a big difference, and the room instantly lightened. The color of the walls was made to match the neutral ground in the curtain. Bamboo shades with blackout liner still do the job of blocking out the light, but when fully raised the room has much more natural daylight. The headboard is at its proper height and the bedspread is from Restoration Hardware. The curtain fabric is Vervain Trocodero in color Pumpkin and the rug is from Stark Carpet.

Small changes can make for a big change.
