LCI Kitchen: Before & After

by Laura Casey Interiors on October 17, 2012

The below photographs show the “before” kitchen and dining room, both of which were in real need of an update. The goal of the renovation was to combine the rooms to make them more usable for their young family and to create a visually cohesive space. There was a wall separating the two spaces which came down, and there were two interior windows which looked right into the laundry room so I suggested we remove them during the renovation. We also took down the dated track lighting and added in some recessed lighting to give much more uniform light to the kitchen. Here are the before photos-

The left wall below in the dining room is the wall that was removed.

From the kitchen side, the right wall in the photo is the wall that was removed.

Demo time! Both rooms went down to the studs and this window came out.

AFTER- The wall dividing the two spaces came down to allow for a large open eat in kitchen. We chose grey shaker cabinets and antique bronze hardware to compliment the stainless steel appliances.

The table has two additional leaves that extend at the end so that they can easily seat eight.

I suggested taking the cabinets all the way to the ceiling to maximize storage space and to create a look of a visually higher ceiling.

My clients are really happy with their new space, and we had a terrific process.

As always, hope you like it too!

Thanks for posting these. I wish I’ve saved more of the ‘before and after’, so I can add them to our web site. A new site is coming any day now ( – keep an eye out for it!

Love, love, love it! Any chance you can share the cabinet color? We just bought a house outside of Boston that needs some work and I’m looking for the perfect shade of gray for the kitchen cabinets. Your work is great! Thanks!
