Maps as art and in other places than a study? I like it.

The Washington Post has a great article today on map restoration. Click here to read it.

Love maps too! They add a sense of history to a room. I am currently framing a map of Paris for my girl’s room. Great images!

I love it! My husband and I actually bought a few old/vintage-looking oversized maps and had them framed and we now use antique tacks to mark the places where we’ve been. I love maps as art-particularly older vintage looking ones!

A dear friend framed the most wonderful maps that she brought back from a trip to France and another has a map in her kitchen and all the little flags of places they have been.
I love maps as murals and as educational devices, ie like “globes!”

Oh Laura I love this post. I have a small collection of old globes and always think I will get around to framing some maps. You may have just given me the inspiration I need! I love the photos where the whole wall is covered in a map – it is just great looking and educational!

I love the look of maps in homes. Do you have a source that you recommend for maps that are accurate but that are not in your traditional colors of bright blue for the ocean etc.?

I love this too. For you cartophiles try The Old Print Shop in NYC.

I like studying maps in general, so I’d love to have some displayed like this throughout my home! It would drive me nuts if they were not accurate though!

Thanks for your continued inspiration Laura! The Long Island maps are just what I am looking for-wish me luck hunting for them!

Always loved maps (especially old ones). But I have yet to get one framed myself. (LOVE the first image – I believe that is Thomas O’Briens home, yes?). But now you got me thinking about a map in my 2,5 old William’s room. It is a big world out there! Happy rest of the week, dear! Mon

I adore maps, my husband is obsessed with them! If left to his own devices every square inch of our house could be covered in them. He loves history and travels the world, so we have a sorted “collection”. I have often considered what is the best way to deal with them without an actual map room!!! Some good ideas here, but that is a project I am not ready to tackle. BTW I have never seen a round barn, so amazing!

I love maps and am a total geography nerd. I hope that you have a super weekend, Laura! xx

I love the use of maps, perhaps not on an entire wall, but I do like a map here and there in a house. Gives it some warmth and character in my opinion. Liked the post.

Completely agree – I love maps! Check out the March House Beautiful – there’s a great ocean mapped wall in there (blue and white, to go with their Blue issue theme).

Love these images! Thinking about framing up a map or two for James Nursery. But then I found this Currier and Ives book from my mom with old fashioned sports renderings. Ah, what is a girl to do!
