mid-week progress

by laura on December 9, 2009

Our 9′ tree is up and really pretty, I don’t think the picture does it quite the justice it deserves. It’s a little hard to see but if you look at the bottom right hand part of the tree my little boys piled on as many ornaments in the spots they could reach. I just love that. Our perfect tree is just a little bit not perfect.

Garlands, ribbon and white lights. That’s all it takes to make me love my bannister too.

I am starting to get questions about how does Santa get to everyone’s house, where does he start, do the reindeers come inside with him & if not do they fly away, does he take the plate of cookies with him? Any advice would be greatly appreciated…I am in new territory.

Very beautiful tree so warm and so magic !!!
and better than me … For the moment I’ve just had time to open the chsitmas boxes … they’re waiting in the living room … I can hear the my millions of snowmen crying after me!
For my experience, Santa Claus just takes the cakes and leave the plate even it’s a very very beautiful one … that’s the way it is in france
Have a nice day

Wow, the tree looks fabulous! Your little helpers have done a wonderful job of decorating it.

Also love your bannister. I am off to a wreath making class tomorrow so am hoping I return with something gorgeous for our front door.

We’ve raised 4 boys …so…
Santa starts at the South Pole and works his way back home.
He only takes a few bites of the cookies because he has lots of other homes to go to
The reindeer wait on the roof, and he ties them to the chimney. If there is no fireplace, he ties them to the neighbors’ chimney with the reins.
We used to leave carrots for the reindeer along with Santa’s cookies, then the kids find broken carrots outside, half eaten on Christmas morning.

any other questions?? ha!!

I love your post, your photos, the sweetness about the boys, and the responses others have shared. When our children were little Santa sometimes took a bite out of several cookies and drank half the milk, and sometimes he drank all the milk and left no cookies! And sometimes the girls awoke with a Santa kiss still showing on their cheeks!

Laura this is just beautiful I love your Holiday decor!! Santa eats the cookies at the house for energy to keep going on and on through the night!

As long as they believe there will always be magic! I tell myself that all the time.
Your tree and garland are very pretty and I quite love the ornaments en masse.
We had a phase like that. Enjoy the magic.
My sons would ask how do you know if your holiday is Christmas or Hanukah?

The house looks great! The garland on the staircase makes me wish I had stairs in my house!

It all looks wonderful! In our house, Santa ate everything!

You can actually track Santa’s progress Christmas Eve night at the NORAD website; it’s pretty cool as they “show” him flying over famous landmarks around the world. He starts on the other side of the world (the farthest time zone away) and makes his way here. Enjoy!

Your decorations look beautiful Laura! I’ve been getting quite a few of these questions too and my typical answer is, “he’s magic”. That’s how he can get everywhere, into everyone’s homes, fly in a sleigh, etc. This answer is the one that works the best for me, magic defies logic so it’s easy to explain it.

The tree is beautiful! The garland too! I am so enjoying seeing everyone’s trees…I may have some advice of the Santa thing. My parents had this trick they did around xmas, when we got real good questions one would jump up and look at the window and made like they saw an elf. We of course we always diverted and would be so interested in the elf we would drop the rest and move on… I was a very gullible child….HAHA!

Laura, looks more than perfect to me! (Now, I don’t dare to share my own tree pictures with the world..). Beautiful!

Loved seeing your face in Avolli’s post about you.

Santa eats and drinks everything, and we always blame him when goodies disappear (read: when I ate all the chocolates!). I like the comment about the parents jumping up and pointing towards the window. I will adopt that strategy!

Happy weekend! OX Monika

Dear Laura,

Christmas is so exciting with the birth of Christ. Everything looks so festive and full or glorious life through these trees and ropings. All marvelous!
Merry Christmas to you,

Pretty tree, Laura! Not perfect makes it more beautiful. You should read your little ones the story of the “Perfect Christmas Tree.” I do hope your ornaments are doing a better job of staying on the tree than mire are! Four little find them perfect for imaginary play :)

I love that the kids had such a special part in decorating – precious. My advice on the questions? Make stuff up – just make sure you and your hubby get your stories in sync! :)

I’ve been telling everyone about the question “Do the reindeer come inside?”. That’s priceless and a new twist for me. I love it!
