There is always a source of inspiration. I wonder if this was hers?

When I worked for Calvin, I came up with an idea that I thought was new and had merit, and then he told me they did that already, I added, but I was not even born yet…so I think that is the answer, ideas need to die to be born again.
I love that settee, the past and the present.
I love looking ahead.

I love looking at how an idea translates over time; this bench is so beautiful and timeless that is looks perfect in the past and present.

This is fascinating! I like the fabric proportions of the present one much better than the
settee from the past. But either way, it is a very interesting way of using fabric with a very contemporary feeling.

I have created works of art that I felt came right out of my head and then lo and behold. I see a work so similar in style. I think we are at least subconsciously embedded with the seed!

I’ve come to accept that I never have a truly original idea, just my interpretation of some wonderful inspiration.
Ms. Kasler’s line for Hickory chair borrows from the past, but she has definitely put her own twist on it. I’m sure her line will become inspiration for generations of future designers.

What a great find-I love the striped fabric and what a beautiful color blue. You’ve certainly proven that a beautiful fabric will stand the test of time and outlast any trend.

Great post! At the House Beautiful event in Atlanta, Kasler said that she loves a wide stripe and actually had her upholsterer use two fabrics because she could not find a ready made fabric with stripes that were as wide as what she had in mind. It makes me wonder whether she has a wide stripe in her upcoming fabric collection! The effect is very striking despite the fact that it is not ‘new’.

Thank you so much for including Suzanne Kasler’s amazing Frederica Bench! I love how you showed the original antique and then our adaptation by Hickory Chair. We love doing couture-like treatments like the fabric pieceouts to match the manner the antique was upholstered in! Our craftsmen in Hickory really are unstoppable with what they can do! Thanks for sharing!
