Artist’s Profile: Christina Dowdy

by laura on September 30, 2009

Christina Dowdy is a Charlotte based artist with tremendous talent who “celebrates color and form without clutter”, maybe this is why I am so drawn to her work. She works largely on commission pieces . Her clients come to her with vacation photos, ideas for still lifes, their children on the beach, whatever they want her to paint.

She is drawn to simpler compositions and uses old techniques of layering and glazing to build up vibrant color on the canvas.

Love your blog and work! Found it through a comment you left on Urban Grace. I’m an interior designer too! I’ve mainly worked in commercial, but am thinking of trying to get into residential on my own:)

Laura,
You described it so well, calm and free of clutter. I love the simplicity.
I love to see other artist’s do what they love and do it independently.

I love the open feel and the “lightness” of her seaside paintings. Beautiful.
