A few weeks ago I did a post on symmetry in rooms and from the comments I was able to see that others too like a balanced interior. I definitely have a side to me that doesn’t like everything just matched too perfectly so here’s the other side.

Maybe it’s because sometimes I like it when things feel just a bit English!

I do like symmetry, but your image with the two different mirrors has convinced me that mixing things up a bit can be beautiful and unexpected.

Love them all…..except the bathroom. Don’t think I could live with that one.
* Hi, Laura~ Hope this finds you well & “happily busy”!
The second I saw the bathroom w/ the two different mirrors, I knew I’d want/need to comment… Whether waking up in the early a.m., or getting ready for bed at night, I just, PERSONALLY, could NOT live with the two distinctively different mirrors… Call me craaazzzeee, but that space is suposed to be pretty/attractive and c*a*l*m*i*n*g before facing or ending the day… The disparate looks would drive M*E absolutely BATTY! (Smiles!)~~~
THEN AGAIN, I just saw that Brooke, one of T*H*E best, most TALENTED (& sweetest, too!), uber-wonderful designers/decorators AROUND, LIKED it… (And I’ve always agreed with her assesments!)… So, that just proves that life is fun and exciting and THANKFULLY, we DO have CHOICES still left for us all (in THIS field, anyway!).
Thanks, kiddo!

* OMG, I just went over to your “NOLA recap” (from June) and right there, in the first pic, I see the back of a Bavarian chair (most likely painted on the front)~~~ That reminded me I brought back TWO of those fabulous, personality-filled chairs from Germany, and they’ve been sitting in our “storage garage” for close to 5 years now!!!! What a joy to be reminded of them!!!! Thanks! Linda *
You’ve got me thinking again…I really love how you play with the furniture shapes and space of a room. Particularly the lamp in the first picture!
I love the not so matchy matchy. Gorge!
Oh gosh I like these too – must be why I never feel like I am definite about what I want in in my own house!
Although I’m partial to the more balanced rooms, I do love looking at the flip side. There is a relaxed feel to the non-matching look that I can appreciate too!
Love the 3th image.

I’m a sucker for symmetry, most of the time. Feels too chaotic without the order, for me personally. On the other hand, I do not like matchy matchy.
I really love the third picture, probably b/c it is very balanced to me.
As far as that bathroom– that would drive me crazy. But if they were more similarly shaped, or had more in common (besides being mirrors!), it might not be such a bad touch.
I am just loving the 2 mirrors.
I gasped when I just saw them. I have never seen anything so cool.
Now if I only had a bathroom big enough to try that out in!
Thanks for sharing your not matching post
The bedroom grabbed me, with the striped durrie, and fave colors!
Love this post and pictures!! I am trying so hard to break away from my matchy-matchy tendencies. It is hard…it is drilled into my head but I love the more relaxed look when not everything is perfect and in pairs.
