I spend a fair amount of time at the sink. On a busy cooking day I run the dishwasher twice. I have two little boys who eat a fair amount, and I like to cook so that is a recipe for dishes. Sinks have come a long way in the past few decades. This single basin stainless steel sink by Kohler uses a new technology called SilentShield which is an exclusive sound-absorption system. It reduces disposal noise and vibration from dishes and running water.
This farmhouse sink is made of fireclay, which is softer than most porcelain and is easier on your dishes.
I could use a longer washer for prep and clean up.
Undermount sinks make for an easier cleanup with no edge for food particles to get stuck in.
You don’t need to have granite countertops or a farmhouse sink to mount them underneath. The below one is shown with corian.
The seamless sink also allows for easy cleanup into a disposal. No more unsightly rims.
I love the look of a copper sink as well.

Great post, Laura. Sinks are one of those things that everyone has but no-one really gives them much thought and we do spend alot of our time at them. There are so many choices and options as you’ve illustrated. Thanks.

Hi Laura! That is a gorgeous selection of sinks. I love the first one, as we live in a 1960s ranch where the kitchen sink noise seems to permeate 70% of the house. As for the toddler dance parties we discussed on Courtney’s blog, aren’t they a great way to relieve the stress of the day and get the little boys’ last bits of energy out before bath time?

We have a farm sink, and I must say, it is one of my favorite parts of our kitchen! But mostly because it’s big enough to stack nearly all of a day’s worth of dishes in with 2 little ones running around! I loved seeing all the sinks!
Oh that copper sink looks amazing. I have a farm sink at home and I love it! Only complaint with it is that top has a groved section to lay your soap on and tiny bits of dirt always get into it, which makes it a pain to clean!
Hi Laura, I replaced a sink with a deep stainless that I now wish I had chosen something more interesting and cleanable? Of course i do use it to clean paintbrushes etc. It is impossible to keep clean (in my house anyway!
Love, love copper sinks! And really love the third picture–the undermount sink, the counter tops and that faucet. However, I fear my little stinker could not keep his little hands off that apparatus to the right of the sink. He’d consider that an open invitation to spray. (But perhaps that would be a nice alternative to the kitchen chore I detest the most– mopping!)
Every time I go somewhere like the Kitchen and Bath show I am so overwhelmed and envious of all the options. Even when I think about redoing things in my kitchen I can’t decide! But I love the look of this copper — so warm and a breath of fresh air from all the stainless we’re used to. Think we’d still love it a few years down the road? I can’t decide (no surprise).
The one thing that is so important is the height of the sink.. We lucked out when we bought our home with counters that are high, perfect for backs ! I have been in some homes where the sink is so low that I had to bend over to wash and that is excruciating…

All – so lovely – the farmhouse sink is beautiful and deep for dishes, but a little fruit and vegetable bath nearby is also a must !! All so beautiful !!
