“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” - Leonardo da Vinci
A few days ago I was reading the Editor’s Page from the June issue of Elle Decor, and Margaret Russell gives some good advice. ” Study your spaces with a highly focused eye, rethink a floor plan, clean and paint as needed and ruthlessly edit your possessions”. Ruthlessly edit….That made me stop and think about how I look at a space. Do I like the look of “ruthlessly edited?” I don’t know that I can go that far, but I do like a clean space. I have been doing a good job this spring of donating what I don’t need or want, and I tell you that it feels good! Mariette Himes Gomez is a designer that does this well. Her spaces are elegant and refined, yet still architecturally interesting. She chooses beautiful yet streamlined antiques, upholstery, accessories and fixtures. She also chooses subtle fabrics and colors, but pays close attention to detail and every space is very functional. Here are a few photos from her portfolio.

Does this fall into your aesthetic?

Love this post, love these pictures!!! I may have to save that first image for my design file. Beautiful!
What beautiful rooms! One day I’ll be able to have amazing flower arrangements like those on my coffee and end tables, right?? Maybe not for a couple of more years… but these pictures give me hope! Thanks for sharing them!
Yep, they fall into my aesthetic.
I love the first picture so much. I need to order a new couch and chairs to get rid of my stuffy old-fashioned look. Can I order these through you?
Oh my gosh – I could move right in. Won’t someone come edit for me? What perfectly designed and beautiful spaces.
Exactly what I like!

I love these pictures-they absolutley fall into my aesthetic!
Yes I think you are right in that she does edit very well yet leaves enough for the space to feel comfortable and warm. It’s about striking the right balance don’t you think.
That kitchen is gorgeous!!!

i tend to have problems editing my own home….i like too many things but i did it a couple of months ago and it helped so much…it just seemed to open the space up and it does make it seem cleaner! maybe it’s time to do it again
This is my look. As much as I swoon over chinese reds and patterns, I want my home to look like this–clean, fresh & calming with the attention placed on a few great pieces.
