The Fletcher Residence

by laura on May 13, 2009

I got such a positive response by featuring Hugh Newell Jacobsen’s Fletcher House in Nashville in Monday’s post on Red Doors. Thanks to my readers for all of your emails and comments! So many of you were curious to see what the inside of the house looks like so I emailed his office. They were so nice to share the interior photos with me taken by acclaimed architectural photographer Robert C. Lautman. I love the clean lines and the mid-century modern furniture. Ann at Hill Country House and I were emailing about driving around in Nashville looking for the house. I wrote to her that it was probably down a long driveway and we might not be able to see it. The site plan at the end tells me that I was right. I will enjoy the images and hope you do too.

The architecture speaks for itself. The furniture is functional and respectful. I would love to sit there and play the piano.

Beautiful how the light comes in at different angles.

I think in my next go around I will be an architect. I really can look at architectural drawings for hours. This is a very smart and thoughtful floor plan. There is no wasted space and each space functions well. The flow is ideal and there is still a strong separation between the private (bedrooms) and public spaces. I also like how the garage is tucked right in there.

This home is clean and beautiful. It feels contemporary yet still has elements of classic East Coast style. Thank you for the peak inside. What a treat!

Laura, what a treat! You are the first blog I read this morning and what a surprise! I love the interior photos. As much as I love my things and collect way too much, I have a huge appreciation for the simplicity and the serenity of an interior like this. I am with you – in my next life I want to be an architect! I am forwarding your blog post to several of my architect friends. Thanks so much for the mention of my blog, too.

Thanks, Laura! What a surprise to open up your blog today and see this house. I’m from Nashville (but live in Pennsylvania now) and I remember seeing the house last time I was there. I *think* it’s on Harding Place in Belle Meade, as I recall doing a double take when I saw it. Thanks for sharing photos of inside. What a house. As the mother of a toddler boy, my first thought (besides “what beautiful architecture”) was how CLEAN it is. I know, I know…they were professional photos. But still!

This home is simply stunning. I love the quiet regal mix.
Love for you to look at my plans, we are in the midst of a major renovation start…
You have a great eye!

Wow – I loved reading this post – architecture is always fascinating to me. I wonder about the square footage of this house – it looks so big from the fascade, but it does not have too many rooms.

You can definitely see the house from the road, actually…it’s a long driveway but there are few trees along it. It’s on Harding near where it intersects with Estes Road. It looks just as cool in person, too! FYI, Katy Chudacoff of Dovetail Design Works did the beautiful interior design. I think the house was in Arch Digest back in 2005.
