My favorite things- Barefoot Contessa

by laura on January 3, 2009

One of my favorite cooks is Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) She built (what she calls her barn) a small house with a fabulous kitchen where she tapes her show for the Food Network and works on her cookbooks on her property in East Hampton, Long Island. It was featured in the November 2008 issue of House Beautiful.  Some gifts under the tree inspired me to post the images.  It is very serene and not distracting in design, as to let the food and the meal be the focus. I love the exposed wood beams in the ceiling. The black honed granite buffet countertop is almost 18′ long. Her website mentions that the refrigerator is Sub Zero, the two dishwashers are Bosch, and the 8-burner stove is Viking.

A refined and muted palette make for a lovely dining area with an abundance of natural light.

Robert Stilin is the interior designer that she worked with.

I would love to sit out here and relax on a cool summer evening.

My sister gave me her cookbooks Back to Basics & At Home and panini press for Christmas. Everything made want to run to the kitchen. In my next life I will be a foodie, for now I just try. I missed her book signing near my parents house by two weeks. Too bad she didn’t come to Charlotte! Anyone else a big fan?

I love Ina’s show…she is such a gracious lady. I have had such tragedy in my life and when I watch Ina’s show it helps me know….life is what you make it. You can live in the chaos or rise above it….don’t ask me how I come up with all this from her shows..haha…but I know she creates a peaceful 30 minutes for me each day. Thank you Ina…for your gracious spirit.
